It was an honour to introduce and host Maria Jose Perea Marquez, an information enabler, system builder, and strong voice in the world of financial empowerment. With nearly 30 years of experience driving high-stakes growth initiatives across Europe, Maria has lived at the heart of transformation. But what she shared with us wasn’t just a career arc, it was a journey of reclaiming agency and designing a life on her own terms.
As Maria Jose stepped onto the virtual stage, she did so with grace, humility, and honesty. Her topic of trading and investing can often feel intimidating. It’s a world packed with jargon, risk, and an overwhelming sense that perhaps this isn’t “for us.” But Maria Jose’s voice was clear: this space is for us. But by the end of 2023, she knew another decision was calling. The pace, the firefighting, the energy lost, none of it aligned with the life she wanted to build.

Her next move? She chose herself. She stepped back from delivery projects and stepped into a new identity, as a trader.
But here’s what’s important: Maria Jose didn’t fall for the noise of fast money or overnight success. She approached trading with the same rigour she brought to every professional challenge: deep learning, building systems, and seeking mentorship. She read voraciously, reached out to podcast hosts, connected with legacy traders—those investing their own capital with a long-term view, and built a structure that mirrored her values.
For Maria Jose, trading isn’t about getting rich quick. It’s about building freedom.
And freedom, she reminded us, isn’t just about money. It’s about choice. It’s the ability to say yes to what excites you, no to what drains you, and to do both with confidence and clarity. For her, that looks like designing work on her own terms, choosing who she collaborates with, and creating a pace of life that’s sustainable.
Systems, Mastery, and Community
One of the key takeaways from Maria Jose’s talk was the value of systems, not just in finance, but in life. She emphasised that in volatile markets (and in uncertain moments), your system is what carries you. Not willpower. Not a lucky streak. A system based on clear rules, reflective learning, and consistency.
And she was honest—it can be lonely. Trading is a solitary act, which is why she advocates so strongly for the community. “You lose alone or you win alone in front of your screen,” she said. “That’s why we need people who understand this journey. Who can help us process, reflect, and keep perspective.”
Her advice was practical too. You can’t outsource financial responsibility. You can seek expert advice, especially when it comes to taxes, but you need to make the decisions. No advisor, partner, or employer can own that for you.

But that’s not the path she walks, and it’s not the path she recommends. “I’m not going to entertain shortcuts,” she said firmly. “I’m here to help you ask the right questions. Because freedom, like wealth, starts with one intentional, clear decision.”
That’s what this summit is all about, intentional, values-aligned decision-making. And Maria Jose embodied that message with such authenticity, showing us that building wealth doesn’t have to mean burnout. It can mean reclaiming time, designing your days, and contributing to the world on your own terms.
As we wrapped up her session, I could feel the energy shift. Her words didn’t just inform, they empowered. And I think we all needed that reminder:
You don’t have to wait for permission to start building your financial freedom. You don’t have to follow someone else’s formula. You can start exactly where you are, with imperfect information, a desire to learn, and the courage to decide.
