What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid?

A person stands on a rocky cliff overlooking a calm ocean

At this year's Wayfinders Summit, we created space not just to exchange ideas, but to connect deeply, with ourselves, our fears, our dreams, and with one another.

We designed this gathering as a home for voices that are often unheard in innovation and leadership. And one voice that truly stood out both in power and presence, was that of Regula Bathelt, CEO and co-founder of Belle & Yell, a platform amplifying women’s careers, health, life and finance across Europe.

Regula took to the stage with an invitation that was as playful as it was profound: “What would you do if you weren’t afraid?”

She brought this question to life not as a theoretical prompt, but as a guiding force, one that had shaped her journey as a journalist, entrepreneur, trend disruptor, and now, a co-founder creating inclusive economic impact.

Let me amplify her message.

Enthusiasm Over Fear

Regula didn’t talk about eliminating fear. That’s not the goal. Instead, she reframed it. Fear, she said, is a signal, not a stop sign. It’s the body's natural reaction to stepping outside your comfort zone. But there's something stronger, something even more magnetic than fear: enthusiasm.

With energy radiating from her presence, she reminded us that enthusiasm isn’t just a mood. It’s a physiological response. When we feel that spark, when we’re dancing in our chairs, when we can't sit still because an idea has lit us up, our bodies release dopamine, adrenaline, and endorphins. These are the very same chemicals that prime us for action.

“Fear makes you freeze,” she said. “Enthusiasm opens the door.”

A person opening a door

That contrast hit home.

The Myth of Readiness

One of the most powerful insights Regula offered was the myth of readiness. It’s a trap, especially for women, that we often believe we need to feel ready before we act. That we need the qualifications, the confidence, the plan. But the truth? Readiness doesn’t arrive before the journey, it emerges through the journey.

This “readiness gap,” as she called it, is what holds so many of us back. It’s why women apply to fewer roles, wait longer to start companies, and hesitate to speak up in public forums. Not because we lack capability, but because we’ve internalized the lie that we must be 100% ready before we begin.

And yet, Regula’s story tells another truth.

She became a journalist at 19, despite having no connections. She produced her first five-hour live TV show on the day the Gulf War broke out, and navigated it alone. She started a production company at 25 with a broken leg, hiring her first employee from her bed. None of these moments arrived with a tidy sense of readiness. But she acted anyway. And each step created the confidence that hadn’t existed before.

Start Where You Are. Move Anyway.

Regula introduced a simple framework to move through fear: Pause. Picture. Proceed.

  • Pause: Acknowledge the fear. Recognize it, but don’t judge it.

  • Picture: Visualize your dream. Feel it. Let it live in your mind and body.

  • Proceed: Take one step. Any step. The perfect step isn’t necessary — motion is.

This method reminds us that micro-actions matter. That courage often begins with a whisper, not a roar. And that clarity comes from engagement, not overthinking.

Stealing Audacity

Perhaps one of the most liberating moments was when Regula said, with a mischievous glint in her eye: “Let’s steal audacity from men.”

She wasn’t knocking anyone, she was pointing out a cultural pattern. We see men act despite not being fully prepared, and we call it confidence. Women are conditioned to wait until perfect. So what if we simply borrowed, or better yet, claimed, the audacity to act before everything feels safe?

Audacity, she explained, doesn’t require certainty. It requires enthusiasm. It requires an inner yes that’s louder than the fear.

Enthusiasm Builds More Than Hope

The conversation didn’t stop at confidence or mindset. Regula made it clear: enthusiasm isn’t just a source of inspiration, it’s a catalyst for wealth creation, economic empowerment, and systems change.

“Enthusiasm builds products. Builds companies. Builds capital,” she declared.

This is particularly important in a world that often equates wealth with masculinity. Regula challenged us to reframe this. Women building wealth isn’t just personal, it’s political, economic, and global. When women hold more financial power, they change industries, communities, and futures.

At Belle & Yell, Regula and her co-founders are creating this shift. They're not just building a platform, they’re building a movement where women can claim space, invest in themselves, and own their financial futures.

From Female Solidarity to Systemic Change

What stood out most in Regula’s talk, and her very presence, was her rediscovery of the female collective. Coming from traditionally male-dominated industries, she spoke openly about how different this new world feels: more supportive, more connected, and rich in solidarity.

And it’s true. Spaces like Wayfinders Summit and communities like Belle & Yell are revealing what’s possible when women come together, not in competition, but in collaboration. Not in scarcity, but in expansion.

Her honesty was refreshing. “I was never a feminist,” she said. “Now I am. A big one.”

The Final Question

As Regula closed, she brought us full circle with a question that still lingers in the air:

What excites you enough to act — even if it scares you?

This wasn’t just a motivational soundbite. It was an invitation to take real ownership of the energy that moves us, and to trust that action doesn’t need certainty, only courage.

So if you’re reading this, consider this your moment.

Pause.

Picture your dream.

Proceed, even if it’s a micro-step.

Let your joy speak louder than your fear. Because, as Regula so powerfully reminded us:

Enthusiasm is bigger than fear.
